Goren und seine Kollegin Bishop sind einem Gangsterpärchen auf der Spur, das neun Menschen auf dem Gewissen hat. Unter den Opfern sind auch zwei Undercover-Polizisten, die einen Waffenschieber-Ring bespitzelt haben. Eine Spur führt die Ermittler in eine Autowerkstatt. Dort findet Goren Hinweise, die ihm verraten, dass der männliche Täter Analphabet ist und folglich weiß er auch, dass dessen Freundin diejenige ist, die die Fäden in der Hand hält.
